The procurement of construction services for the CASA-1000 Project required an open, transparent, and fair tender and award process. Procurements for the 1,387 km power transmission system involved multiple funding institutions, in multiple countries, and took place over multiple years. The first competitive procurement for the system was announced in December 2017.

Due to the length, complexity, and cost of the project, implementation required awarding ten separate construction contracts in each of the four CASA-1000 countries, with new construction beginning near Datka, Kyrgyzstan and ending at its southern terminus in Nowshera District, Pakistan.

After competitive and open tender processes, construction contracts were awarded beginning in December 2017 and ending in November 2020. The contracts associated with the project are divided into six general segments (segments are referred to with “TW” codes) and in some cases, divided into smaller subsegments (contracts referred to as lots). Each segment and each lot is financed by a particular International Financial Institution (IFI) or pair of IFIs working together.
